Dear LCUSD Community,

With four weeks until the start of the 2021-2022 school year, we are gearing up with plans and preparations to welcome back our students, staff, and families.  There is still a month of summer to enjoy, but as you begin to think about returning to school, here are some details about our reopening which may help to guide your family’s planning.

Masks Required in all TK-12 Classrooms and Indoor Settings
Current State and local public health orders require all students and staff to wear masks when indoors regardless of a person’s vaccination status.  Please make sure your student has a clean and comfortable mask each day when they come to campus.

All Students and Staff 12+ Years of Age: Please Be Fully Vaccinated
One of LCUSD’s top priorities is the health and safety of all students, staff, and families.  With the new COVID-19 variants and positive cases showing an increase of late, the most effective layer of protection for adults and students age 16 and older is to be fully vaccinated.  At our elementary schools, we will engage in protocols to help classroom cohorts remain as contained as possible so that if we have a positive case that requires the cohort to quarantine, we can limit the impacts to a single classroom group.

At LCHS 7-12, however, the contact tracing for a positive case will be impactful, with the potential for 180+ close contacts with a single case.  So, to minimize the disruption to your student’s in-person learning experience in grades 7-12, it is essential that they be fully vaccinated.  Please help us to ensure a safe and healthy school campus by making COVID vaccinations for everyone 16 years and older in your family a must.

Requests for Independent Study Distance Learning
Our surveys to request Independent Study Distance Learning closed last week and approximately 40 students will be rostered to this program to begin the school year.  LCUSD is finalizing plans for the Independent Study Distance Learning Program and your school Principal will be reaching out to those families with more information during the first week of August.

LCUSD Reopening Health and Safety Plan 2021-2022
All families and staff will receive a copy of the LCUSD Health and Safety Plan 2021-2022 early in the second week of August.  The Plan will provide the most current and up-to-date guidance on health and safety protocols, including information on masking, physical distancing, COVID testing, and LCUSD’s exposure management plan.

Parent/Community Members Selected for the LCUSD DEI Oversight Committee
LCUSD received 26 applications from Parent and/or Community members and it was an exceptionally strong pool of candidates.  I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of those who applied.  The following people have been selected to serve as the Parent/Community member representatives on the DEI Oversight Committee:

Noelle Burnett        Ahee Han              Kevin Martin        Hugo Tzec
Sabina Clorfeine    Mark Kassabian    Sugi Sorenson     Charlotte Wells

And, finally, in case you didn’t wake up at 5:00 a.m. to watch the British Open, congratulations to LCUSD alum, Collin Morikawa, who joins golf legends as the eighth player to win two majors before the age of 25.

Have a great week and thank you for all you do in support of our LCUSD Community.

Sincerely,

Wendy Sinnette
Superintendent
